Coming from the W on US-6/278, turn NE on Jackson Ave. TL on SR-314 (becomes CR-100), go ~13.3 mi, rd ends at CG. Coming from the N on SR-7, TR (W) at Molly Barr Rd exit, go ~2 mi, TR on McElroy Dr, TR on SR-314, go ~12.5 mi to CG. Swimming beach, boat launch, hiking trails. On hill high above lake (partial view in winter when leaves have fallen). Verizon digital weak. 662-563-4531. Clear Creek BD areas, Sardis Lake (COE). Free. 14-day limit w/in 30 at Sardis Lake. Follow directions above to Clear Creek CG. 1) Just after the main Rec Area sign, first dirt/gravel rd on L goes 0.7 mi to turnaround, area OK for lg rig or 2, partial view of water. No signs.
2) Next on L, dirt/gravel rd signed “primitive camping”. Several sites, max ~35′. Portajohns. Trashcans. Bike rack, bike trailhead. No lake view.
3) Next on L, another dirt/gravel rd signed “primitive camping”, sites ~24′ long. No lake view. Guy Gipson #84383 Dec 09.
Coontown Crossing BD area, Sardis Lake (COE). Fire rings, restrooms. Free. 14-day limit w/in 30 at Sardis Lake. No signs. Noted on official map as having “primitive camping”. From the directions in the Clear Creek CG listing above, go 1.5 mi NW on SR-314 (or 0.5 mi NW from McElroy Dr), TR and go ~7.5 mi on CR-102. (From SR-314, there are 2 other rds to TR on, & then TL on CR-102 from, which are CR-198 & CR-143). On R before pay station for boat ramp, short rd to sites, watch for soft ground when muddy. Pat’s Bluff CG, Sardis Lake (COE). No hookups. $8, S/A Pass 1/2. Free Oct-Mar (but closed winter 2009-10, call ahead 662-563-4531). 14-day limit w/in 30 at Sardis Lake, extendable w/ prior permission. From US-6/278 10.3 mi W of town, turn N on Blackjack Rd following signs for Sardis Dam & John W. Kyle State Park. Follow signs to Pat’s Bluff.
