From US-90/277/377, take US-90 W & N 10 mi, exit at “Port of Entry, Amistad Dam” sign, take 1st R to CG. Fills most days. Sm-med rigs. Lake swimming, fishing, naturalist. Good views of Lake Amistad. San Pedro Flats, Amistad NRA (NPS). 35 RV + 5 tent BD sites. pullthrus. Grills. Vault toilets. $6, S/A Pass 1/2. 14-day limit. From US-90/277/377, go 2.5 mi W on US-90, bear R (NW) on Spur-454 (paved), go 0.6 mi to entry rd on R. N29.4595 W100.9474. Entrance is a little tight, so swing wide as there is minimal traffic at entrance off of 454 Spur. OK for very lg RVs, 75’+. W avail at park hq. At Amistad Lake, but not along the water. Lake swimming, fishing, boat ramp. Lots of security at CG from Border Patrol, Sheriff & Park Rangers. Nice quiet place w/ lots of fairly tame deer & other wildlife. Verizon, ATT & Sprint good. Rough Canyon, Amistad NRA (NPS). 4 open grassy BD sites w/ shelters on top of water overlook (no O/N elsewhere, enforced). W at fish cleaning sta. Flush toilets at ranger sta ~1 blk away & at top of high-water boat ramp. $6, S/A Pass 1/2. 14 day limit. From jct US-90 & US-277/377 on NW side of town, go 12.5 mi N on US-277/377 to Hwy R2. TL (W) on R2, go 7 mi (good signs). Follow signs to marina. At closed boat ramp TR (swing wide) on gravel drive into camping area. Potholes, overhanging branches at entrance. TO LAREDO: Between Laredo & Del Rio on US-83 & US-277 are many lg picnic areas with no restrictions on staying O/N. Check your AAA or Rand McNally Atlas for exact locations. Feb 11: oil boom along US-83 from Laredo to Carrizo Springs. The hwy is full of large speeding trucks and the RAs are a mess. US-277 is a lot calmer. Donn Thompson #4156 Sep 90.
