Free beach camping (Calhoun County). Dozens of dispersed sites along paved beach access rd that goes 5 mi SE from Magnolia Beach to Indianola, SW side of Lavaca Bay. Variously named Magnolia Beach, Indianola Park, Indian Point, along the stretch. Concrete picnic shelters (major structural cracks in some) w/ tables & grills, trash barrels (sometimes collected), restrooms & separate showers, playground, even a basketball court. Also miles of BD on hard, flat sand/dirt up away from the water. Free. 2-wk limit. From center of Port Lavaca, take SR-238 SW 5.2 mi to SR-316. Take SR-316 ESE 5.8 mi to turn off to Magnolia Beach (signed FM 2760 but go straight after turning) and follow signs through Magnolia Beach to public beach and pkg sites off paved Ocean Dr. Camping starts just S of the little bridge after you TR onto Ocean Dr. (you come to a day use area first). Or, continue on SR-316, cross bridge, go to Ocean Dr, TR to Indianola or L to Magnolia Beach. Generally peaceful & secluded. N28 33.352 W96 31.429 at Indian Point area. Crushed shell beach, firm, easy access for any size RV, quiet except for generators. Fishing along beach and from commercial piers. Birding, incl a raised wooded marsh walk and observation pier at Indianola Bird Walk. Excellent solar. Good Verizon. Pricey gas/propane at Indianola Marina. Nearest D except possibly at private parks, is at Port Lavaca City’s “Lighthouse Beach” $5 plus $3 day use pass ($15 annual) – follow SR-238 thru town, find it on R just before SR-35 (or follow SR-35 to jct w/ SR-238 Broadway St, go S and immed L).
