Boat ramp, San Juan Riv access for kayaks & rafts. Mosquitoes bad in Aug. Verizon & ATT OK. Lg petroglyph wall, side rd off Area B. Foot Bridge Rd dispersed camping (BLM). Pullouts, fire rings. Free. 14 day limit. Go 1.2 mi N from town on US-191, TR on SR-162, which follows the riv. Go 3.2 mi, TR on dirt rd going to a broad bluff on R. Cross cattle guard, very quickly TL on loop rd to campsite on bluff edge. 37.28445 -109.49463. ~3 lg rigs. More van spots. Hovenweep NM CG (NPS). 31 gravel sites, shaded tables, fire rings, tent pads. W (summer only, 5-gal limit/person), flush toilets. $10, S/A Pass 1/2. No reservations. Open all yr. All main access rds paved & well signed. Just N of town on US-191, TR (E) on SR-162, go ~16 mi, turn slight R then slight L in Montezuma Creek, continue ~7 mi on SR-162, TL on McElmo Canyon Rd (sign for Hovenweep), go 9 mi, TL on CR-401, go 4 mi, TR on CR-413/213, go 6 mi, TR into NM. CG is near the Visitor Ctr. 37.383 -109.07127 (GPS navigation may not work). Or, from Blanding, go ~15 mi S on US-191, TL on SR-262, go 8 mi, TL on CR-401, go 16 mi (passing Hatch Trading Post), TL at Hovenweep sign, go 6 mi, TR into NM. Near CO state line, can also be reached from Cortez & Pleasant View CO, directions at . A few sites OK for RVs up to 36′, in upper part of loop. Most are walk-down tent sites. Open sites in mid-Jun. Gen use 8-10a, 4-8p. Verizon OK. Trails (dogs on leash welcome). Rds into outlying units are dirt, not maintained regularly, usually impassable when wet, check at Visitor Ctr. No services for 42 mi.
