Grand Staircase/Escalante NM (BLM). BD. Dumpster. Camping permit required, free at BLM Visitor Ctr on W side of town (S side of hwy). 14-day limit. Go E on SR-12 ~5.8 mi from Visitor Ctr to Hole in the Rock Rd (between MM 64 and 65). TR, go ~0.2 mi, TR, very shortly go L to camping area. 37 43.4 N 111 31.619W. If you miss the R turn before going into camping area, you can also TR just past a dumpster ~400′ down the rd, not as easy an entrance. Room for lg rigs. Park only in established sites. Very dusty on windy days, could be very muddy if it rains. Beautiful views, open spaces, juniper trees. SR-12 E from Escalante to Boulder reported to have up to 12% grades.
