From jct SR-44/43 in town, go 3.9 mi E then NE on SR-43 (becomes WY SR-530), TR on Lucerne Valley Rd, go 2.5 mi E, TL (N) on State Line Cove Rd (dirt), go 0.2 mi, TR, go 0.4 mi to CG along Flaming Gorge Reservoir shore. BD (NF), dispersed sites. Free. 16 day limit. From Manila, go ~22 mi S on SR-44 (some 8% grades), turn W on FR-218 (paved, is S end of Sheep Creek Loop), go ~5 mi to Deep Creek Rd (FR-539). CG & BD areas, FR-221 & FR-96 (NF). BD areas free. 16-day limit. ~22 mi S of town on SR-44, TR (W) on S (upper) end of FR-218/Sheep Creek Geological Loop (paved), go ~3 mi, TL on FR-221 (good gravel/dirt, dusty but light traffic). 1) Go ~0.5 mi to 2 lg grassy areas on L, 0.1 mi apart, ~100′ off hwy. Rock fire ring at each. Room for several sm-med rigs.
2) Go 2.2 mi from FR-218 to pullout on R, ATV staging area, trailhead.
3) Go 5 mi from FR-218, TL on FR-96, go 1.8 mi to Browne Lake CG. 20 primitive sites, tables, fire rings. Vault toilets. $14, S/A Pass 1/2. Mid-May to mid-Sep. Sites in 2 loops, several w/ full lake view, a few nestled into trees above it. Stream, dam, fishing. Beaver Creek trailhead at jct FR-221 & 96. Ute Mtn Lookout trailhead across dam just past CG. 4) There are several sm sites along FR-221 & FR-96 on the way to Browne Lake.
5) Just past Browne Lake CG on FR-96, just before dam, TR, go ~1/2 mi on potholed rd to 2 lg BD sites.
Note) All the above can be accessed from N (lower) end of FR-218, ~10 mi S of town. but it is a more difficult uphill grade than via SR-44. There are spectacular views on N 2/3 of loop, but it’s easier to go down it after camping, & that provides better views.
