From US-95 at Arco/Rebel sta, go SE on S 1st St, ~2 blks just before McDonald St (on R), TL (NE) into ~250×350′ area just after Atomic Inn. 36.90849 -116.75537. BD (BLM & mine land), SR-374. SB on US-95 in middle of town, 36.9084 -116.75936, go 4.0 mi W on SR-374, there are some bldgs on R, then a sign for paved rd to “Rhyolite 1.3 mi” (36.88097 -116.81816).
Or, NB on US-95, bypassing Beatty, TL (W) on Airport Rd (1.5 mi paved, then 2.0 mi good wide dusty gravel, MM 56.7, 36.86808 -116.75574), TL on SR-374, go 0.3 mi to Rhyolite sign. TR, go ~0.8 mi (36.88950 -116.82649, ~0.5 mi before Rhyolite), to 1) Established flat, gravel dispersed site w/ stone firering in median at jct w/ rd signed “Cemetery”. OK for lg back-in rig.
2) Or, TL toward “Cemetery”, go 0.4 mi to red barn-shaped bldg. Flat gravel pkg area across rd from Red Barn (36.88991 -116.83494), stone firering, lg-rig looparound.
3) Also 1.6 mi further down rd (gravel, washboarded), continue straight, slowly across sm ditch, where main rd bears R (36.89089 -116.8641), go 300′ to dispersed site on L (36.89083 -116.86533), stone firering. Looparound rds, lg-rig OK. Verizon Extended Network 4 bars. PHOTO.
4) Another, instead of turning at Rhyolite sign, go 2.1 mi further on SR-374 to Titus Canyon Rd (good gravel), 36.8592 -116.8461, TR (W), go 1.1 mi (rough, washboarded), L side (berm limits access to hi-clearance vehicle). 36.85658 -116.8672. Well away from rd. In BLM before Death Valley NP boundary, “no camping” signs along rd likely apply only to NP. Observed lg RV using several days. Good easy rd to here but go no further w/ lg rig. Titus Canyon Rd continues 26 mi, becomes 1-way on entering NP ( ). Nearby free sights: Rhyolite ghost town (Bottle House & old bldgs ), Goldwell Open Air Museum (incl some at Red Barn). BD (BLM), US-95 S of town. 2.0 mi S on US-95 from jct w/ SR-374 in town, go W on Vanderbilt Rd (36.88151 -116.75269), TR immed after cattle guard, bear L to lg pullout & turnaround area – dispersed site w/ stone firering, next to pretty pond w/ ducks. 36.88251 -116.75467. No signs. Sm rig only (lg vehicle likely to bottom out going down short steep hill to site, esp if towing). Rick & Kathy Howe #74769 stayed Apr 22.
At 3.0 mi S on US-95, go W on Airport Rd (1.5 mi paved, then 2.0 mi good wide dusty gravel, MM 56.7, 36.86808 -116.75574), 0.8 mi to huge level dirt/gravel area, S side of rd, w/ 3 gravel piles, surrounded by old mobile-home E posts. 36.86775 -116.77179. At 7.2 mi S, 3 pullouts along dusty gravel rd to E, 36.81239 -116.72926, no prohibitive signs. 1st is right at hwy. 2nd is on S side of rd, 0.2 mi from hwy. 36.81369 -116.72674. Gets muddy/soft if rain. 3rd is 0.8 mi from hwy, next to “ghost” bldgs, N side of rd. 36.81924 -116.7169. Concrete foundations & some walls remain. Lot a little unlevel. Gets daytime visitors. At 17.1 mi S, 36.71909 -116.61381, go W from US-95 to Big Dune (aka Amargosa Dune) sign at hwy, on a bit dusty, good gravel rd. Goes around W side of dune. 5.2 mi in, 36.64465 -116.60903, lg established dispersed site. Shortly another BD area, 36.64161 -116.60811. Lg white dune is pretty here, & hills to W; otherwise, it’s a creosote bush desert. Popular w/ ATVers. Not much further S on gravel rd except town of Amargosa Valley. NOTE: This is alternative to rd into dune on E side (only 1 mi from paved Valley View Rd but in very bad condition – deep dips every few feet, extremely dusty, lg rigs would bottom out).
