Lg pkg area, also used by fishermen. SR-82, on W side of Calcasieu Lake ocean inlet on L just before ferry boat landing. Addl lg gravel lot on E side of ferry crossing. Lots can be congested w/ day users. Ferry runs to Cameron & back (free, max rig length 50′). RVs towing cars take note – truck pulling trailer was asked to back up to a side area (no room to pull around) after boarding the ferry boat (Feb 07). Runs every 15 min during the day. Only runs on demand at night. Ferry sounds horn at each departure, a pleasant interruption if you like the waterfront. Bill/Kim Ingham #23581 Feb 92. Beach BD. No facilities. Free. No stay limit posted. 12 mi E of town (1.1 mi W of Oak Grove) on SR-82, turn S on Parish Rd 359 (paved), go 2.3 mi to Rutherford Beach. Hard packed area before the beach where you can stop & decide if you want to proceed. Use extreme caution driving on this beach – the sand is soft, deep and irregular – best for 4WD vehicle.
