Cottonwood CG, Navajo Parks & Rec Dept (NPRD). 93 level, paved, mostly sm-med sized sites. Numerous spots for lg RVs. Flush toilets, central W faucets, tables, D, trash barrels, phone. $20, no S/A discount, cash only. 14-day limit. Open all yr, 23 sites in winter, W & D closed Nov-Mar. ~3 mi E of US-191 on IR-7, follow signs to Thunderbird Lodge, pass Canyon de Chelly NM Visitor Ctr, TR at sign w/ tent icon (just before Lodge), go ~1/4 mi, TR into CG. N36 8.9416 W109 32.3863 (may not work for navigation). Most sites max 30′, some longer in loop 3. Open sites in Jun, but can fill fast rest of summer. Good ATT, poor Verizon. Pauline’s Ranch. BD. No D or W. Private Navaho ranch that holds team roping contests some wkends, so has lg pkg area for horse trailers & spectators (may be crowded & little room to park O/N). Owners allow free camping whenever nearby Cottonwood CG is full or closed (or you just want to stay at a real ranch). Entrance is directly across the rd from Cottonwood CG. Look for red gate, may be chained but not locked, but close it behind you to keep the farm animals in. Dogs & other animals are all friendly. Ask for Pauline; she won’t accept money for your stay but she is head of the local food bank & accepts donations of food or money for it.
