Old abandoned mining company town, called “the pads” by some (BLM). BD. ~53 level patio slabs from old mobile home pkg area, & gravel ground. Fire pits at almost all sites, clean. Free. No signs. A state hwy patrolman told me about it, said it’s totally safe, no police calls or problems in the 12 years he’s patrolled SR-190. Sheriff came one evening & just drove by. Park ranger in Death Valley NP said camping there has been acceptable for a long time. 10.5 mi W of town, 5.25 mi E of park boundary, on SR-190, just past 3000′ elev marker, just E of MM 129, S side of hwy, look for gravel turnaround, drive down lane to pkg area. Paved rd in appears to be blocked but is not. 36.33962 -116.59938. Watch for tire-hazard tie-downs both on the paved pads & near them. Lg rigs OK. ~25 pads & other pkg, room for ~100 RVs. Sky good for satellite. No Verizon. Sometimes windy. Hiking. Beautiful views all around. No ATT.
