Halfmoon Creek dispersed sites (NF). No facilities. Free. Probable usual 14-day limit. Go ~4 mi S from town on SR-24. TR on SR-300. Go 1/4 mi to CR-11, TL, go 1 mi to FR-110/Halfmoon Rd. TR, go 3.3 mi, following signs to Halfmoon Creek (1st 0.8 mi paved, then 2.5 mi good gravel, often narrow 1-1/2 lanes wide, several blind curves. Use care, possibly unhook 1st, after 1st ~1.9 mi, 39.18472 -106.38428, rd is uneven, many low hanging trees.) Lg BD area OK for lg rigs, signed FR-110D, at N39.16695 W106.39182. Unhook & drive sm vehicle to check further. ~1.2 mi further on Halfmoon Rd is Emerald Lake, a sm beautiful lake w/ rainbow trout. Just before the lake is a Halfmoon CG (NF) w/ pit toilets & dumpsters (no W or D). Trees. Just after lake are Elbert Creek CG (NF) & trails to Mt Elbert. BD (NF). No facilities. Free. No restrictions posted. US-24 MM 177, S of Leadville, go 3+ mi W on McWethy Dr/CR-4. At fork of CR-4 to R & CR-5 to L, take the packed dirt rd straight ahead. Some of many spots – 1) Go 0.3 mi, TL into NF camping area. Fork to R for great spot N39 14.855 W106 21.548. Or fork to L, & L again for lg private open spot N39 14.822 W106 21.415. Or after 1st L continue straight to N39 14.754 W106 21.491. Any size RV. Good Verizon, satellite friendly. More sites beyond that, but explore w/ sm vehicle 1st. PHOTO. Turquoise Lake Rec Area, ~8 CGs (NF). Tables, toilets. $26, S/A Pass 1/2. 6th St W from town to CR-37, TR, then TL on CR-4, continue to CR-9C, TR. Camping allowed in designated sites only. Quiet hrs 10p-8a. CGs close after Labor Day, Matchless & Tabor (& maybe May Queen) are free & open until snow prevents (no W, pit toilet open). CGs found roughly in the following order along CR-9C: 1) Matchless CG. Lg open paved area, marked sites. ~1/4 mi in, on L. Any size rig. Mike and Linda Norman #79341 Sep 12. Tennessee Creek Rd BD (NF). Free. 14 day limit. Room for just a few rigs. From US-24 just NW of town, go 1.6 mi W on CR-99, TR on CR-9, go 0.1 mi, TR on Tennessee Creek Rd/CR-9A/FR-103, go ~1.3 mi to site at 39.28174 -106.34925, & 1/2 mi further to site at 39.28515 -106.35702. Camp Hale Memorial CG (NF). 21 spaces. Tables, fire rings. Pit toilets. $19, S/A Pass 1/2. All reservable: reserveamerica.com. Late May-early Oct. From Leadville go 14 mi N on US-24, TR (E) at CG sign, or, from I-70 x171, go 14 mi S on US-24, TL (E) at CG sign, N39.43626 W106.32198. Before bridge, TR on paved rd, go 2 mi to CG. N 39.42135 W 106.3. Do not take lg rig across the bridge. In Camp Hale Natl Historic Site, beautiful lg valley, 9000′ elev. 60′ pads. Also a group site, fits 15-20 RVs. Dispersed camping no longer allowed in Camp Hale area. 4-wheeling, hiking, fishing in Eagle Riv. Colorado Trail runs thru Camp Hale. Many historical markers. Museums in town.
