Parowan Gap BLM. BD. Free. From I-15 x62 just N of Cedar City, go 13 mi N on SR-130, TR (E) on paved rd signed “Parowan Gap Petroglyphs”. Go ~2.5 mi to the “gap” (split mtn). Go thru the gap, park on L near petroglyphs or go up a little farther and park on either side of the rd by lg open meadows, N37.91209 W112.98984. Vault toilet at petroglyphs (sm rig access only). From Parowan go S (toward Brian Head) on SR-143 to sign for “Yankee Meadow/5-Mile Picnic Area”, MM 6.3, N37.79815 W112.8159. TL (E) on paved FR-049, go 4.7 mi on steep, twisting, narrow, good/fair paved rd (becomes good gravel ~4.5 mi in) past red rocks “Vermillion Castles”, cross cattle guard. Kiosk ahead on L has info on BD posted. N37.77396 W112.74972. Sites 21-25 are on L, just after cattle guard, slightly before kiosk, along dirt rd, limited turnaround after #23, not very level. Sites 14-20 are 0.3 mi further on FR-049, on L, dirt rd, some OK for lg rigs. Sites 1-13 are 0.1 mi further, on R, dirt loop rd comes back 0.1 mi further on FR-049, best lg-rig sites at 1st turn. Elev 8450′. Gain in elev on FR-049 ~1800′ (average 7.3% grade). Dirt rds are a little rough but doable. Check 1st w/ sm vehicle before taking lg rig in. Some sites shaded. Reasonably flat, need some leveling. Beautiful views, lots of wild life. Camp host on hill to R after Reservoir sign. Boat ramp. Open Mem Day-Labor Day. No reservations. CLOSED long-term to camping (see ), REPORT NEEDED if it comes back, Jul 18. From Parowan go S (toward Brian Head) on SR-143 to sign for “Yankee Meadow/5-Mile Picnic Area”, MM 6.3, N37.79815 W112.8159. TL (E) on paved FR-049, go 5.6 mi on steep, twisting, narrow, good/fair paved rd (becomes good gravel ~4.5 mi in) past red rocks “Vermillion Castles”, past info kiosk on L, past dispersed sites, TL at CG sign, go 0.5 mi on good gravel rd to CG. N37.76679 W112.76057. Good gravel loop & sites. Most sites unshaded, back-in. Elev 8450′. Gain in elev on FR-049 ~1800′ (average 7.3% grade). Dirt rds are a little rough but doable. Check 1st w/ sm vehicle before taking lg rig in. Yankee Meadow Reservoir is 1 mi further on FR-049, a few BD spots. Fantastic scenery, towering volcanic cliffs of Sydney Peaks in the distance.
