Houston Mesa CG (NF). 75 sites, 50 reservable. D & W free if paying to camp, otherwise RV W $2, D $10 (credit card only). Flush toilet, shower. $22, S/A Pass 1/2. 14-day limit. Feb 1-Nov 30. From jct SR-87 & SR-260 in town go 2 mi N on SR-87/260 to Houston Mesa Rd/FR-199. TR (E), go 0.25 mi to CG on L. N34 16.19 W111 19.1. 5000′ elev. Paved access & aprons. Elk loop has more long aprons. 40′ RV max. Busy, esp on wkends. Wide spaced sites. Good Verizon. Tree cover but sat/solar possible at some sites. Hwy noise. 3 dispersed undesignated BD sites (NF). No facilities. Free. 14-day limit. From jct SR-87 & SR-260 in town go 2 mi N on SR-87/260 to Houston Mesa Rd/FR-199. TR (E), go ~7 mi just past Beaver Valley Estates to bridge crossing over E Fork of Verde Riv. 6 sites (1st 3 are day use only) are stretched over next 3 mi (paved rd). Rd narrows after 2 mi at ‘Whispering Pines’. 1st day use site at 7 mi: N34 20.539 W111 17.404. Last BD site: N34 22.935 W111 16.687. Some areas level. Most areas OK for 2-3 RVs. Tight maneuvering. Pullouts, Fire Control Rd (NF). Stone firerings. Free. 14-day limit. From jct SR-87 & SR-260 in town go 2 mi N on SR-87/260 to Houston Mesa Rd/FR-199. TR (E), go ~12 mi to the area of Whispering Pines. Rd is very narrow in this area. TR on Fire Control Rd (gravel). Go ~2+ mi to beginning of pullouts. Rd goes 13 mi w/ many pullouts & loops to SR-260 ~25 mi E of Payson. Pine forest, good Verizon in many spots, sites are varied sizes & conditions, some for lg rigs, some minimal access, some w/ views of Mogollon Rim. Rd used by ATVs on wkends. Flowing Springs CG (NF). BD sites. Vault toilet. Free. 14 day limit. 4 mi N of Payson on SR-87/260, near MM 257, 1/2 mi S of E Verde Riv, go ~1/2 mi NE on FR-272. Lg gravel lot on L w/ vault toilet & many tent sites in trees, easy walking distance to riv. RV pkg OK in gravel lot but it is sloping & hard to level. Go past that lot to 2 nice sm sites along the riv, & another sm lot 1/3 mi farther, also fairly unlevel. 34.30281 -111.35345. 20′ trailer length limit. Elev 4583′. Janis Paquette #126292 Oct 17.

Little Green Valley (NF). BD, 4-5 semi-level sites. No facilities. Free. 14-day limit. From jct SR-87/260 in Payson, go ~11 mi NE on SR-260 to FR-405A at MM 263, N34 16.970 W111 8.59. Not well marked, look for sign before turnoff. TR (E) on FR-405A, go past a corral & trailhead. Sites are from 0.2 mi to 1.2 mi from jct. FR-405A is narrow gravel w/ no turnaround except at BD areas. Rd deteriorates rapidly beyond 1.2 mi. Rough access to most BD areas w/ only semi-level sites. Best for sm rigs – be careful of low trees. Gladys Smith #1720 Jun 95. Christopher Creek CG (NF). 43 sites, tables, grills. Fresh W to fill tank. Toilets. $18, S/A Pass 1/2. 19 mi E of town on SR-260, S side. Sharp Creek CG (NF). 22 paved RV sites, tables, fire rings, grills. Fresh W to fill tank. Pit toilets, very clean. $22, S/A Pass 1/2. 14-day limit, enforced. 26 mi E of town on SR-260 between MM 273 & 274, turn S. Elev ~6000′. 7 sites are pullthru, lg-rig OK. Some sites unshaded.
