Prineville Reservoir SWA. 29 dispersed, marked, BD sites along ~6 mi of lake shoreline. Vault toilets, trash bins. Free. From US-26 in E end of Prineville, go ~16 mi S on SR-380, to sign pointing to Prineville Reservoir. TR (W). Rd is graded dirt w/ some rocks. BD sites start in 1st mi, along N shore of Reservoir. Site #11: N44.155838 W120.667551. Site #27: N44.168174 W120.652215. Not recommended for rigs over 30′. No turnaround, rough rd W of sites 10 & 11. Most sites not very level. Also can be reached from the W from Prineville SP, but rough rd w/ curves & dips, not recommended for RVs over 20′. Beautiful views, wildlife viewing, very quiet. Excellent Verizon. PHOTO. Old Ochoco Rd/FR-22, CGs & BD areas. 14-day limit. ~14 mi E of town on US-26, TR on Old Ochoco Rd/FR-22. 1) Go ~10 mi, TL into Ochoco Forest Camp CG (NF, signed). 5 sites, tables, firerings. W, pit toilets, trash cans. $15, S/A Pass $7. Becky Redford #105111 viewed May 18.
2) Go ~10 mi, TL just beyond Ochoco Forest Camp CG (signed), continue ~7 mi, TL into Walton Lake CG (NF, signed). 28 paved but not very level sites, tables, firerings. Central W, vault toilets, trash cans. $15, S/A Pass $7. Mostly paved walking trail all the way around lake. Boat ramp. Becky Redford #105111 stayed May 18.
3) Go ~10 mi, TL just beyond Ochoco Forest Camp CG (signed), continue ~8 mi, passing Walton Lake CG (signed), TR into Walton Sno-Park (signed). No facilities. Free. Paved rd all the way, FR-22 becomes gravel soon after Sno-Park turnoff, loops around & connects w/ 4210, then SR-42/Canyon Creek Rd which ends at FR-22 at Ochoco Forest Camp, tour includes Big Summit Prairie, home to the Big Summit Wild Horse Herd & lots of wildflowers. Lower Crooked Wild and Scenic River (BLM), 122 numbered BD sites in 9 CGs. Potable W at Chimney Rock CG only (next to site 8). Tables, toilets, trash cans, Ds for grey water only. $8, S/A Pass 1/2. “Group” sites (actually dbl sites, at Lone Pine & Big Bend CGs) $16. Free Nov 1-Mar 31. 14-day limit. From US-26, go S from town on Main St (SR-27). BLM does not advise trailers at Poison Butte CG, or lg RVs at any of the CGs (some sites may be OK, check ahead 1st w/ sm vehicle).
