Big Bend NP developed CGs. Park entrance fee $30/vehicle for 7 days, free w/ America the Beautiful or S/A Pass, in addition to camp fees. 3 developed BD CGs, all $16, S/A Pass 1/2. Reservations required, rec.gov. 14-day limit. ATT some areas. Wifi at RGV store & Chisos & Panther Junction visitor ctrs. FM-170 E from Terlingua, TR (S) on SR-118 into Park, or, US-385 S from Marathon into Park. See Park map at for detailed Park rds. 1) Cottonwood CG. 24 gravel mostly-level sites. Potable W. 2) Rio Grande Village (RGV) CG. 100 sites in far eastern end of Park. Potable W, flush toilets, D. 2/3 of the sites are by reservation only . Lg rigs OK. RGV also has EWS section, $36, no S/A discount (private concessionaire). 29.18099 -102.95726. Many low-hanging trees. No generators in part of CG. Plan for plenty of time – the distances in this park are immense – 45 mi from the W entrance to RGV. A wonderfully desolate area – javelina & coyotes roam the RGV CG w/ little fear of humans – you can walk right up to roadrunners – delightfully unusual. Wifi at RGV Store. No cell service. Near delightful little Mexican border town Boquillas del Carmen, sm boat ferries across riv, US border sta on way back. Rick Schafer #81691 stayed Feb 24.
3) Chisos Basin CG. 60 sites, flush toilets, D w/ potable W. Some sites reservable . 29.27498 -103.30167. 24′ length limit due to access rd, some 10% grade, several switchbacks. Tight CG loop. Big Bend NP backcountry campsites. Park entrance fee $25/vehicle for 7 days, free w/ America the Beautiful or S/A Pass, in addition to camp fees $10/night, S/A Pass 1/2. 14 night limit. Reservations only at Panther Junction visitor ctr & . FM-170 becomes the entry rd from the W into Big Bend NP. US-385 becomes entry rd from the N (from Marathon). 1) Government Spring/Grapevine Hills (0.2 mi good wide gravel, 3 mi W of Panther Jct Visitor Ctr). 3 sites, OK for lg RVs.
2) Hannold Draw (horse camp, 3 mi N of Panther Jct). Open area, OK for lg RVs. Rd in steep, may need 4X4 to climb out.
3) Paint Gap. 3 sites. Sm-med rigs.
4) Croton Springs. 2 sites in huge open area at end of 0.5 mi dirt rd. ~3 or 4 lg RVs could share the space. A bit unlevel.
5) K-Bar. 2 sites. Sm-med rigs.
Might wish to get the Park map (paper or online) & drive to each site to assess if your rig will fit & if you would like it. You may find that you fit just fine in some sites that the Visitor Ctr staff would not recommend. W at Panther Junction visitor ctr, limit 5 gal/person/day. Ds at Big Bend Adventures RV Park outside W boundary of Park, & at Rio Grande Village in E end of Park. Cell service poor at backcountry sites but OK w/ antenna & booster. Terlingua Ranch Lodge. ~14 mi N of FM-170 on SR-118, look for sign “Terlingua Ranch Lodge” and rd to the east. Go ~16 mi (the last 3 unpaved but pretty easy). They have cabins, EWS RV sites, and if their tent campsites are not too busy will let you BD there for $5. Call ahead first on that: 432-371-2416. Water and showers. Pool in season. Just west of the lodge is a 4-wheel drive high clearance dirt rd that goes into the north end of Big Bend National Park. Kim & Greg Ketcher #140941 viewed Jan 21.
Wide paved shoulder pullouts. No facilities, free, suitable for O/N. On both sides of Hwy, just before the sign marking the boundary of Big Bend NP, along the rd that goes into the Park from SR-118 and FM-170. This is ~1/2 mi before the entrance station.
