In addition to the Heritage Ctr/Museum (open to all M-F, sometimes Tu-Sa, 10a-4p), all facilities at the base are avail to non-military (US citizens only) except RV Park & Commissary. Driver needs photo ID such as drivers license to get base entry pass (good for 1 day only). Except at nite, passes must be obtained off-base at the bldg at the outdoor tank display area just off US-95 on Imperial Dam Rd. At nite, inquire at gate. All adults in vehicle must present photo ID & be US citizens. N of Yuma on US-95, TL (W) on Imperial Dam Rd (signs to Proving Ground), TR (E) into entry gate. Paradise Casino. Huge level hard-packed dirt pkg area behind & to SE of casino, w/ wide parallel rows of berms for RV pkg. $10, 3 days $25, 7 days $50. Register inside casino at security desk after obtaining Players Club card. Always check current stay policy, changes frequently. N of Yuma from Winterhaven CA, take I-8 x172, go N on Winterhaven Dr (main st), then at stop sign TR (E) on Picacho Rd which continues E, then curves N. At ~3 mi in (32.74425 -114.46196) bear L up hill, do not take rd to R (No Trespassing signs). At 4.1 mi in, pkg areas near & along canal. 32.74332 -114.44291. Lg rig OK. “Kool Corner” BD. Established primitive sites with lg stone firerings. No facilities. Free. I-8 x2, go 5.5 mi E on US-95/16th St to Laguna Dam Rd/Ave 7E (Chevron & Circle K at corner), TL (N), go ~7.3 mi to where rd makes a sharp L. This is Kool Corner (old store now converted to a storage bldg). Proceed on main rd another 1/4 mi to dirt rd on R with an aging “US Govt No Trespassing” sign (32.80368 -114.49697). TR on it, carefully cross narrow bridge, go past a private residence, ~0.1 mi to BD area on L. Also lg flat area further up hill on L, near canal. Or, if the sign dissuades you, instead of bearing L on the main rd at Kool Corner, go straight onto a dirt rd that goes past private property on R, 1/4 mi to jct w/ another dirt rd, TL, go ~1/4 mi, TL on rd to BD areas on R. I-8 x2, go 5.5 mi E on US-95/16th St to Laguna Dam Rd/Ave 7E (Chevron & Circle K at corner), TL (N), go ~8.7 mi to end of pavement, continue on, find side rds to BD areas, but some posted No Camping. Lg gravel area w/ 12 designated sites, & gravel lot w/ ~12 undesignated sites near boat dock, 32.82019 -114.47199. 1.0 mi past where pavement ends a rd forks off to R & goes up a hill to more BD spots. N32.81615 W114.47289. Note: Laguna Dam Rd/Ave 7E N from US-95 is very rough/washboard. Alternate route: I-8 x12, go 2 mi N on Fortuna Rd, TR (NE) on US-95, go ~10 mi, TL (W) on E Imperial Dam Rd, go ~4 mi, TL (S) on Laguna Dam Rd, go ~3 mi to area. Most sites unlevel. Go thru VFW lot & around back of their bldg to N side & thru fence signed for 14-day camping. Dirt pkg next to hwy. Trees along W edge of camp area provide several sites w/ shade. Barry M Goldwater Air Force Range West, Dispersed camping areas. No facilities. Free, permit required (obtain online & watch short training video, check in & out online, open to public, ). 14 consecutive day limit w/in 28. I-8 x14, go S on Foothills Blvd. 1) at E County Rd 14 (frontage rd to Range), TL (E), go 2 mi, TR on Ave 15E, go 2.3 mi to where st makes sharp R turn, go L into AF Range entry (sign post “A”). Pkg limited to 4 rigs. Camping is not permitted on any of the State Trust Land along the E side of Ave 15E, whether signed so or not. RVs & 5th wheels are not permitted at most other entries to the West Range. Many rds require 4×4, at least high clearance. Miles of area to explore & camp if not an RV or 5th wheel. Only as to Kofa NWR (FWS) land – No facilities, free, 14-day limit in any 12-mo period, RV camping permitted in Kofa NWR anywhere w/in 100′ of a rd, & 1/4 mi away from any water source. ~MM 54, Castle Dome Mine Rd to E, go 5.5 mi thru Yuma Proving Grounds land to Kofa NWR, pkg along both sides of rd for at least 3 mi. 95.5, E on wide rocky graded dirt rd signed to Crystal Hill, Kofa NWR (FWS). (8.4 mi S of Kuehn St in Quartzsite.) Established primitive sites, no facilities. Rd 1st goes thru BLM land, passing a BLM sign ‘No Overnight Camping Permitted Beyond This Point’ (applies only to BLM land). At 3.0 mi are signs for the NWR. ~2 mi further begin areas w/ stone firerings. ~1 mi further, TL into an old CG w/ spots marked off by crumbling concrete curbs: 33.5235 -114.1189. Go back out & continue on to base of hill, find more old CG area: 33.5251 -114.1169. Any size rig fits most spaces. Interesting vegetation. Rockhounders for company.
